The Stroke Indices (SI) for all eighteen holes at Walton GC have been reviewed using data for all rounds played at Walton since the new 1st green was commissioned, including the other more minor alterations. Player scores, using various handicap ranges, have been analysed. Little variation for any range occurs from the key range of 0-18 handicap index.
The analyses show many holes are indexed accurately but a few are very different, e.g. men’s holes 13 and 18 play much harder and holes 7 and 14 much easier; for ladies, hole 1 is extremely hard and 14 relatively easy. Your committee has agreed a new set of Stroke Indices derived from working through all these differences AND adding in R&A/USGA guidance on the balance of SI over the whole round.
The most obvious change is that the front nine-holes are now even numbered SI, and the back nine-holes are odd numbered SI.
Accordingly, the SI will change on Wednesday 19th December, the target date for NZGolf so the scorecards will have the correct information. The tee signs will have temporary changes, until various already planned permanent updates, including to sponsors, are made. The new SI are already on the website, go to Course.
The changes were agreed by the Club Committee mid-year but have been held until the closed season so as to give time for adjustment and not to influence competitions. With the new rules from 1 January we get all the changes over at about the same time.
NOTE: the SI changes will not affect your net score or Stableford score but will affect handicap matchplay and where you score Stableford points.
